Perspectivas en diagnóstico, tratamiento, epidemiología y prevención de la hepatitis C

Resumen

La hepatitis C es una enfermedad del hígado causada por el virus del mismo nombre, se trasmite por vía sanguínea y con frecuencia evoluciona a la cronicidad. La hepatitis C ha sido reconocida como un problema de salud global, hay alrededor de170 millones de individuos afectados en el mundo. El objetivo de este trabajo fue describir las características clínicas, patológicas, epidemiológicas y terapéuticas de la hepatitis C, para lo cual se revisaron 28 citas bibliográficas. Los tratamientos con antivirales son los más exitosos, aunque caros. La falta de conciencia pública sobre esta enfermedad es un desafío importante, dada la asociación de la infección crónica con enfermedad hepática avanzada, la cirrosis, cáncer hepático y manifestaciones extrahepáticas. De especial importancia es el desarrollo de vacunas contra el VHC y la aplicación de las normas de la OMS para la eliminación de la enfermedad para el año 2030
