Mortalidad por Enfermedades Cardiovasculares en los PaÃses del Caribe / Mortality for Cardiovascular diseases in Caribbean countries

Abstract
The author(s) carried out a review of literature on the mortality of cardiovascular diseases in Caribbean countries. They encountered thirty-seven (37) scientific articles from 2010 to 2018; and among those articles, reviewed fifteen (15). There are diseases affecting the heart and blood vessels, the likes of which manifest coronary diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, arterial hypertension, peripheral arterial disease, rheumatic heart disease or weak heart. These constitute the primary causes of death in the world, and 10% of morbidity. The objective of the study was to characterize the primary risk factors of these cardiovascular diseases in Caribbean countries, as follows: tobacco addiction, arterial hypertension, high cholesterol levels, a sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy diet and diabetes mellitus – all related to an unhealthy lifestyle. The size of Caribbean countries did not affect the rate of mortality of the infirmed had there been preventive measures that decrease the reach of these diseases in the aforementioned countries, however insufficient still.
